For our out-of-town visitors...
Where to stay?
Inexpensive and close by:
Hotel State Street 121 State Street, Tel. (805) 966 6586
Only a block and a half away from the Ashtanga Yoga Shala and a block away from the beach. A pension style hotel with shared bathrooms/showers down the hall. The rooms are modest yet very clean. Each one has a full size bed (queen size also available though more expensive) a dresser, small TV and own washbasin. They can offer a weekly rate around $256 (discounted with booking of 3 or more rooms), nightly around $59. They offer complimentary coffee, no breakfast or other food preparation facilities. You will be located right downtown with many restaurants, coffee houses and Tuesday night Farmer's market within walking distance.
Santa Barbara Tourist Hostel 134 Chapala Street, Tel. (805) 963 0154, www.sbhostel.com, info@sbhostel.com
Two and a half blocks away from the Yoga Shala and two blocks from the beach. Perhaps the cheapest bed in town, $23, albeit dorm-style, in a small, lively environment with free breakfast and community kitchen, internet cafe, bike rentals and laundry facilities. If you're on a tight budget and don't mind having alot of other people in your space this may be the place for you. They have a three night limit per stay but say they can most likely extend it if all is going well.
Ala Mar Hotel 102 West Cabrillo Blvd. (805) 962 9208
A three block walk to the Yoga Shala. One of the less expensive beach front hotels. They offer weekly rates and units with kitchens. Nothing too fancy but close by. Single week night from $119. Talk with manager for special weekly rates.
Other Motel, Hotel, and B&B recommendations call:
Hot Spots (800) 793 7666 or local #: (805) 564 1637 www.hotspotsusa.com
This is a free accomodations service. Their website isn't very informative. I recommend calling and talking to someone in person. There are so many hotels, motels and B&B's in close proximity to the Yoga Shala. We're at 324 State Street. The more specific you can be the more likely they'll be able to find you what you want. There are many hotels within walking distance; there are many motels with kitchenettes; there are many expensive places close by and fewer inexpensive. If you are willing to drive there are some reasonably priced hotels on upper State Street. All the best in finding something that suits your needs.
